Persons who were citizens by birth or naturalization but have since lost their citizenship status and are precluded by the laws of the countries of their acquired citizenship from holding dual citizenship may apply for Permanent Residency in Kenya.

The following persons can by Law apply for Permanent residency in Kenya

• Persons who were citizens by birth but have since renounced or otherwise lost their citizenship status and are precluded by the laws of the countries of their acquired domicile from holding dual citizenship;
• Persons who have held work permits for at least seven (7) years and have been continuously resident in Kenya for the three (2) years immediately preceding the making of the application;
• Children of citizens who are born outside Kenya and have acquired citizenship of the domicile; and
• The spouses of Kenyan citizens married for at least three (3) years.

Requirements for application for Permanent Residency Class A in Kenya.

To make an application to be a Permanent resident under Category A in Kenya you shall require the following.

1. An application cover letter


2. Permanent residence application form (form 23)


3. Category A - Questionnaire for Intending Applicant.


4. Proof of Previous Kenya Citizenship. Eg. Copy of birth certificate, Identity card or Passport.
5. 2 Recent passport size photographs.
6. Police Clearance Certificate issued by country of current domicile.
7. Proof of current citizenship. Eg Registration or naturalization certificate and Passport of new country of domicile.
8. Copy of the Police Clearance Certificate from country of Domicile.

How to apply for Permanent Residency in Kenya by a former Citizen.

After compilation of all the Requirements. The application for Permanent residency by a former citizen, with all the requirements is made to the Director of Immigration Services Kenya.

Once the application has been processed and is successful an Approval certificate shall be issued containing the terms of the Residency.
